Benefits of Ginger

Ginger is my Beauty Booster

Ginger on skincare? Sorry! Yes. You heard correctly 😉 Native from China and India, ginger is way more than just that an ordinary plants. It has a number of properties to qualify as a beauty booster as well. And the best part? The ingredient is one that is almost at all times sitting at the bottom of your vegetable basket. So no need to run around digging up plants for this one! Here are 5 reasons why you skin should be getting more of ginger.

Benefits of Ginger
Lets talk about the benefits of Ginger – OrganicIsBeautiful
  • Burn Support

It is surprising to know that the natural situation of the skin is regained if ginger is applied directly to the place where the burn has taken place. It also helps to reduce the pain for the burn. Besides rubbing a fresh ginger slice, one can also apply fresh ginger juice for the same effect. If it is applied twice or thrice a day, it can help to remove different scars too.

This takes effect in 6 to 12 weeks while the ginger slice should be fresh every time you apply it.

You Will Never Thought That Knowing Ginger Skincare Could Be So Beneficial!
  • Anti-Aging

Ginger has more than 40 antioxidants in it.

That’s an impressive number to keep in mind!

This is why it greatly helps in anti-aging. The toxins are flushed out due to which the body circulation of the blood is improved. This in turn helps to have improvement in the skin appearance because it provides more nutrients to the skin.

They also prevent damage from different free radicals which is why the youth of the skin is not lost. The elasticity and firmness is maintained and aging is slowed down.

  • Acne and Spots

Acne and spots or different related blemishes are more like a curse to many people. Ginger can work wonders here. Ginger is a very powerful antiseptic and cleansing agent. It helps to keep the skin clear as well as free of any residues. As a result, the skin is invigorated and the blemishes are also lessened.

Acne-causing bacteria is also killed by ginger which is why it is also known as the best natural acne-fighting weapon of all. This way the rate of acne formation is also minimized.

  • White Scars

Hyper-pigmentation can also be solved with the help of ginger. The white spots are now no more of a problem at all. The skin becomes lighter or white at some places in comparison to other patches of the skin. The use of ginger reduces the appearance of this pigmentation.

If you apply a fresh slice of ginger to your skin and leave it on for some time, then the results can sometimes be seen in just 2 weeks.

If you also have any other ginger benefits make sure you tell me in the comments below too.

How to Pamper Yourself At Home &…Naturally! (Promised, it doesn’t have to be complicated)

Walking into a health food or vitamin store is an exercise in overwhelm. And googling what you’re trying to find out can be even worse! Peppermint, rosemary, lavender…you name it!

As me, there’s a good chance that you’ve also purchased herbal teas, extracts or salves for a cold or a minor first aid situation. Wouldn’t it be awesome to make those same herbal remedies yourself? With drastic decisions come drastic measures. Making the switch over to an all natural and healthier lifestyle can be overwhelming. Where do you start?

Here are 5 steps to make that easier for you. List compelled by Pure & Simple.

1- Eliminate chemicals in your foods

This one is the most important (that’s why it’s number 1!). If you only take away one thing from this, take this: everything you do for your body relies on how well you are fueling it. I said for a long time that I wouldn’t be one of those crazy ladies in the grocery store who stands at every section for hours and hours and reads all the labels. Want to know a secret? That is me now! Now, I understand you might not know what every ingredient is, so this might stress you out, but relax! A general rule of thumb: if you don’t recognize the ingredient or if it is a mile long, just don’t get it. The longer the label, the more of a chance there is for chemicals to be in it.

Here are some of the 10 most common chemicals to avoid if you are new to label reading:

  • High Fructose Corn Syrup
  • Yellow dye
  • Red dye
  • Blue lake
  • TBHQ
  • MSG (also called monosodium glutamate)
  • BHT and BHA
  • Sodium Nitrate
  • Aspartame
  • Sucralose

Note: of course, this is not a complete list, but this should help you get started!

2- Cut out sugary drinks

One of the mistakes people make is feeling as if they are drinking enough because they are always sipping on something, but rarely is it water. I make an effort to have 1 gallon of WATER every day. Anything else has to be in addition to that. Alternatively, you can kick start your day with the extra energy from drinking lemon water. A tumeric latter will do to [Recipe here]. Here are some things to consider:

  • Store bought fruit juices are usually loaded with sugar
  • Soda is junk. Don’t drink it.
  • If you are a coffee drinker, keep in mind how much sugar you are consuming with each cup. I’m a big starbucks girl so this one applies to me.

3- Exercice in the morning

If you are just getting into a healthy routine, this one should help you out. For me, when I exercise in the morning it is great motivation to continue being healthy for the remainder of the day. If I save my workout until the end of the day, I have a longer period of time to come up with an excuse to not workout at all.

4- Get yourself a basic starter kit of essential oils

If you are looking to make any all natural products to avoid chemicals and save money, there are some essential oils that are…well, essential. If you are looking to start smaller, here are 5 essential oils I would recommend for you:

  • Peppermint
  • Lavender
  • Thieves
  • Tea tree
  • Lemon

5- Stock your cabinets with the basics

There are so many natural medicine products that you will find yourself using more and more as you continue on this path. Here are my 5 favorites:

Argan oil and Coconut oil are both a must have. Because there are both highly versatile, nutritious for both your skin collagen and your hair scalp. As well as easy to implement on your daily routine like I do here. Talking about your hair strength, coconut oil is ideal base of Pre – shampoo or as a combination with Shikakai powder. India is home to traditinal Ayurveda medecine that I have discovred living here in Malaysia. Little India is two stops away from my home. How convenient is that 😉

Shikakai Powder acts as a natural astringent for hair enhancing its binding properties naturally.

Apple Cider Vinegar is always handy to have at home. It naturally fights against wrinkles and keep your skin elasticity uniform. I personally love it and pamper myself with it on Saturday [Happy Saturday | Pamper Yourself]

And, the last, but not the least is Honey.
This all-natural ingredient is good for so much more than sweetening up your tea or coffee. Honey is actually a natural humectant, meaning it draws moisture from the air into the skin and ensures it’s retained it in the layers where it’s needed most for penetrating, long-lasting hydration.

Well there you have it. 5 steps to help you get started. I know it can be intimidating, but don’t give up. I speak from experience when I say it is WELL worth it.

Happy health, everyone!

When Eating Healthy ISN’T Enough

Have you ever felt this way–you make a ton of dietary changes, but you still. don’t. feel. well.
You’ve gone gluten-free, or even paleo, you’ve gone on a candida diet, and gone sugar-free, you’re taking probiotics, but you’re still sick.
Hannah Hepworth is sharing with us some healthy living tips for When Eating Healthy Isn’t Enough. What to Do When Eating Healthy Isn’t Enough.

POSITIVE THINKING:

This has been a toughie for me in the past. You can eat really healthy foods, but if you have a negative mind and are constantly thinking about your huge “to do” list, and that person that cut you off, and your annoying coworker, and how stressful it is to be a mom, then you know what?
You’re going to feel like junk.
You can’t feel good with a negative mind, you just can’t! I’ve written about starting your day with positive affirmations. This can be a great way to set the tone for your day. Another thing you can do is to start a gratitude journal and write down 3 things you are grateful for, first thing in the morning. Try it out! These 2 tips only take a couple minutes but they could really change the tone of your day. Mindfulness OrganicIsBeautiful

STRESS MANAGEMENT:

The thing about stress is that we can’t avoid it. Stress is a normal part of our life. The thing we can do is manage our stress so that it doesn’t rule our lives. One thing that I’m REEEEALLY really good at is worrying which just adds to stress levels. I’ve been able to stop a lot of worry by using this simple exercise that I write about in this post.

Another thing to do to manage stress is to notice when you’re body starts revving up, and take a 1 minute pause to just breathe.

Relaxation time | OrganicIsBeautiful

TIPS: One breathing technique I use a lot is deep belly breathing. Lay down if you can, if not do it wherever you are. Breathe in for 5 counts through your nose and concentrate on filling up your stomach with air. (Put your hand on your tummy).

Don’t breathe with your chest, breathe with your belly. Hold the breath for 5 counts and the release through your mouth, slowly for 5 counts. Repeat this until you bring your stress levels down a few notches. This belly breathing technique helps to lower cortisol (stress hormone) levels and really gets you breathing back into your stomach rather than in your chest which is what we do naturally when we are stressed!
SLEEP AND EXERCISE:

Sleep and exercise are so important to our health. I used to exercise so I could eat junk foods. I believed in my teenage years that this was “healthy.” The exercise definitely helped keep my anxiety at bay growing up but I didn’t do my body any service eating all the sweets!

Eat Good Feel Good | OrganicIsBeautiful

Exercise is extremely important for our emotional well being. It also, like deep belly breathing, lowers our stress levels and produces good mood hormones and endorphins.

  • Sleep is also important in regulating mood, stress and energy levels. If exercise wipes you out, like it does me lately, try pilates, yoga or walking. You don’t need to run a full sprint and bust your buns. Light exercise will do the trick and you can always work up to more.
  • Sleep greatly determines how we feel. It’s generally better to go to bed earlier and wake up early if you can. Staying up late and sleeping in just doesn’t do the trick and is not nearly as restful. If you can’t go to bed early because of your work then try to catch a cat nap when you can to keep energy levels up and stress hormones down.

Here are some tips for getting to sleep and staying asleep:

RELAXATION AND RELATIONSHIPS:

This part of health is greatly overlooked. We spend way too much time running around trying to accomplish as much as we can during the day and forget to take time to breathe and just chill.
Take time each day to do things that help you feel relaxed.

– Is it reading a book?
– Playing a game with your kids?
– Fishing?
– Taking a drive?
– Going to the grocery store alone!?
– Knitting?
Whatever it is make sure you do it, every day.
Also who do you love spending time with?
A spouse, children, family member, best friend?

Don’t forget about those around you that you love and that make you feel good. A feeling of connectedness with others makes you happy and thus strengthens your health.
I could go on and on about other things that impact your health that aren’t food related but for times sake these are the top and most easily accomplished things you can do to increase your health. As I’ve placed more and more focus on the non food sources of health I’ve seen my health increase so much more. Food is still important I won’t ever discount that but you’ve got to think outside of food as well for true vibrant health!

DIY Homemade Orange Peel Face Mask

Now that you know why orange peels are as much beneficial for your body as your skin, it’s time to get our hands dirty!

Living abroad, I have learn to become very versatile and flexible when it comes to treating my skin. Some products that I used to find easily when living in my home country were sometimes not available in my local markets. I slowly turned into skin care recipe that allows me to respect my budget and remove that frustration away of not getting that product I really need.

Surprisingly, orange peel powder is used in several skin care recipes to reduce acne, cleanse and open up clogged pores, protect skin from blackheads, control oiliness, or highlight the natural glow of our skin.

How to make an orange facial mask at home?

Get organic orange fruits and create your orange peel powder.

Missing a step? Yes. The most important one.

The freshly cut orange peels needs to be sun-dried! To do so,

Spread the peels on a tray and place them in areas which receive plenty of sunshine, like a balcony.

Let orange peels dry in the sun for a day or two. It is only after this phase that you will next move to crushing the peels into a powder using a blender.

You can store the powder in an air-tight container until you need to use it.

Prepare your Facial Mask ingredients.

You will need two ingredients. Yes, that’s all! And guess what? Both are available in your kitchen.

I named: Yogurt and Honey!

  • Why Yogurt? In the Ancient India, yogurt, when applied to skin, was used as an effective remedy to get rid of acne and pimples. It can also create a barrier that prevents new acne-causing bacteria from reaching the skin.
  • Why Honey? Honey is one of those amazing things that nature and bees provide. Honey has antimicrobial properties, antioxidants and at the same time, is beneficially sticky. Honey, especially raw or unpasteurized,  works as natural humectant and helps the skin keeps its natural moisture.

The recipe.

  • 1 tablespoon of your newly made orange peels powder.
  • 1/2 cup of nature Greek yogurt.
  • 1 tablespoon of honey

PS: I personally prefer when the honey is warmed, it makes it easier to work with it. The texture is a bit more looser so it blends with the other two ingredients easier.

  • Mix it all together until you get a compact paste.
  • Simply spread a layer on your face and wait 15min.

PS: 15-20min wait is approximate and vary from skin to skin. When you feel that the mask dry off a little bit, it’s time to wash it all off!

  • Rinse it all off with tepid water and feel amazed. Your skin is now revitalized.

The Result.

The antioxidants in honey and the peels help make the skin look younger while the yogurt naturally is effective in curing acne by cleansing your pores.

(Note: Be careful for a few hours if you’re going out in the sun after this mask, as it will cause photosensitivity.)

Personally, it  made my face much much more soft, HIGHLY recommended, and it’s a superb way to use oranges … outside the box.

I hope you enjoyed this simple facial mask recipe. Try it out and let me know how you feel in the comment area.
