Winter brings the cold and dry weather which makes the skin flaky and dry. It sucks out the smoothness and moisture in the skin. Even though winter is not the only cause of dry skin; there are some other factors which are associated with dry skin such as nutritional deficiency, aging, and much more. Some of us may not take dry skin issues seriously because there are numbers of moisturizers and lotions available in the market. But, do you know that those kinds of lotions contain chemical ingredients which may make the dry skin conditions worse?

So, what is the solution to treat dry skin? Well, today on OiB, I am going to reveal natural DIY recipes for dry skin problems. If you have dry skin, you can use these recipes to bring back the skin’s moisture.

Milk

Milk has been the secret for beautiful skin for centuries. Even the famous Cleopatra is known to bath with milk which results in the healthy and glowing skin. Milk contains lactic acid which helps skin exfoliating and preserves the skin’s pH levels. For dry skin issue, milk works like magic because it is an excellent moisturizer. For deep moisturizer, I usually use:

  • Mix a teaspoon or two teaspoons of milk cream with some drops of lemon juice. Rub the mixture on the hands, legs, and other dry skin areas. Leave the mixture for some minutes and then take a shower.
  • Combine three or four tablespoons of flour and some milk cream into a thick paste. Apply the mixture in hands, legs, face, and other dry skin areas and leave the mixture for 15 minutes. I usually rinse the milk mask with lukewarm water and repeat the step once a day.

Oil therapy

When it comes to dry skin natural remedies, the best treatment that you can get is oil therapy. Applying oil or essential oil into the dry skin area will help restore the moisture in the skin. Oil therapy is not limited to certain oil selection only; in fact, you can use any oil that is available in the kitchen such as coconut oil, olive oil, avocado oil, grape seed oil, almond oil, and much more. I love applying olive oil or grape seed oil and give light massage to the body and then head for the shower. Heating the oil before applying to the body is also a good choice if you have some more free time. After the shower, I also apply a light moisturizer or sunscreen for sunscreen prevention.

What to avoid?

When having dry skin, there are some points to avoid which are using scented soap and also avoid alcohol and caffeine. Scented soap and detergent are known for having irritant substances which can cause skin dry and irritation. It contains lots of chemical substances compared to the unscented products. In addition, to prevent dry skin, I also limit the alcohol and caffeine consumption because it makes the body dehydration. I drink more plain water to keep the skin healthy and moisturized from within.

Dry skin is indeed annoying; but with the right treatment, you can eliminate it and restore the skin moisture using simple home remedies such as milk and oil therapy.

MATCHA ZOATS

If the title of this recipe – Matcha Zoats- makes absolutely no sense don’t worry, I will explain all.

If you already know what I’m referring to then prepare yourself to get excited about this healthy and delicious breakfast.

Matcha

Matcha is made from ground Japanese green tea leaves. You may remember my earlier article of green tea powder in your skin routine here. When you eat the whole leaf, it makes it higher in nutrients and anti-oxidants than if the tea was brewed.

Yes, I hear you… Sounds almost to good to be true. Keep reading below 😉

Why should you use it? One it tastes good. But two, studies have linked the consumption of green tea to reduced risk of some cancers, boosted immunity, raised metabolism and fast recovery after exercise. That sounds like a pretty good list of the benefits of matcha to me.

Matcha can be a bit pricey but it’s worth the investment because, trust me, one tin will last you for ages.

Zoats

Zoats stands for zucchini (a.k.a. courgette) oats.  I love adding grated veggies to porridge because it really fills up the bowl and makes for a satisfying breakfast. Its super simple to do and helps you to sneak in an extra portion on veg!

  4. Transfer to a bowl and top with your chopped fruit.

→ Did you know? A cup of matcha tea contains about the same amount of caffeine as a cup of coffee. Best is to make this oatmeal recipe for breakfast and avoid caffeine later in the day.
