Today’s hot topic at OiB is Broccoli. Broccoli is another advantageous gift of nature.
It not indigenous to India rather it can be traced from Italy. The exotic and healthy
veggie of Broccoli is worth consuming and can be adapted to various forms of
cooking and cuisines.

Health Benefits of Broccoli:
Broccoli is one of the stunning natural skincare elements. It contains high
concentration of Vitamin C content. It is heavily loaded with Beta carotene, a very
effective anti-oxidant which destroys free radical of our body. You must know that
Potassium in Broccoli helps in reducing blood pressure of your body. The calcium
present in vegetable is very good for the patients of osteoporosis, as it helps in
building strong bones.

It is said that the darker in color, more nutrients it contains. Slight purple Broccoli
has a lot of carotenoids in it. It is also very effective source of folic acid. It helps in

Recipe- Quick Broccoli Stir Fry:

I am sharing a quick recipe with you, which has only Broccoli as the main ingredient, and will surely be a treat for all the vegetarians .

Ingredients:

 Broccoli flowers as desired
 White pepper powder 1 tsp
 Salt as desired
 Butter or Oil 2tsp

Method:

 Clean the Broccoli flower and cut into bite size pieces. Include the stalk of the
Broccoli.

 Heat the oil and add all the Broccoli flowers in it. Sprinkle the white pepper
powder and salt on it.

 Cook for like 2 minutes only on high heat while stirring it constantly. Take it off
once ready and serve yummy hot Broccoli Stir Fry.

Note: Never over cook your veggies to avoid lumps. It devoid many nutrients from
the vegetables. Broccoli Stir Fry makes a good snack when you are dieting.

How to use organic products and get glowing skin?

Now food items what you eat everyday can make you put on weight. Though you do not realize it, you put on those unwanted kilos that can ruin the beauty of your skin and health. Meat products, flour, fried foods make you gain weight. Foods made from nature don’t as they do not contain saturated fat, have tons of fiber, and are low on calories.

Very briefly I will discuss the DIY recipes.

  • Whole-wheat pasta
    Food of pasta, then go ahead. All you need to do is alter the garnish and ingredients. When serving the pasta, avoid sauce. Instead, make use of olive oil, onions, garlic, diced kale, diced tomatoes, bell peppers, carrots, fresh basil, and oregano.
  • Smoothies
    Smoothies are extremely easy to make. All you need to do is take some soy milk and almond with frozen berries. Just blend them all and you have one powerful juice in one drink!
  • Foods to be avoided are meat, milk, rice, and too much of potatoes. These are not for your skin and your weight. Unless you avoid them, you cannot expect good skin.

Here is a small tip when you want to keep your skin looking fresh. You will want to drink water and avoid coffee at all cost. Tea in the mornings or red wine in the evenings is fine.

These products are safe because they come with plenty of nutrients including vitamins and antioxidants that provide what your skin actually requires. When they are in their natural form, they tend to get easily absorbed and that explains why they give better results. Other products found in the market, do not provide the results with you want.

What’s the deal with Salads anyway? Some people adore salads whereas some despise them. I would say that after potato chips salad is the most popular item in restaurants all over the world. That’s why Today on OiB I will enlighten you with the different types of salads and how you can make them creative and tasty in a healthy way.  

By definition a salad is strictly speaking a combination of meat, vegetables, fruit, nuts or cheese either cooked or raw and served with any dressing or dip. 

Now that we’re clear with what a Salad actually is; let’s focus on the different varieties of salads you can find in functions, events, parties and family dinners.  

  1. Green Salad: The most common type of salad which can be found in restaurants all over the world. Lettuce is the main ingredient in this salad – after that you can add vegetables, meat, fish, nuts or eggs to complement the taste and nutrients. This type of salad is typically topped with mayonnaise or oil based vinegar.
  2. Vegetable Salad: As the name states, this type of salad mostly consists of blanched vegetables along with cheese and nuts. Occasionally fruit may also be added. But, a sauce or dressing is a must as it helps in combining all the flavors together.
  3. Mixed Green Salads: This salad is a mixture of numerous types of lettuces. Some varieties are sweet whereas others can be bit sour. The dressing of vinaigrette is usually prefereed as it helps in releasing the flavors of lettuces.
  4. Fruit Salads: This type of salad is my personal favorite because it is super tasty and you can eat it any time of the day you want without any hassle. As the name states, this salad strictly comprises of fruits (either canned or seasonal) and sometimes whipped cream can be added for extra facor.
  5. Seafood Salads: Just ask your relatives or friends living away from rivers or sea and they will tell you of how much they crave for fresh and tasty seafood. Adding flakes of a freshly caught fish into a green salad can do wonders because the taste is just extraordinary. Oh, and fish is extremely healthy and good for your health.
  6. Complete Meal Salads: If you have left-over meat from yesterday’s dinner don’t just throw it away. Instead, add some eggs, cheese and vegetables in it and voila! You have got yourself a meal salad. The Italians have been doing this since centuries and they call it the antipasto salad. Pasta Salads: Last but not the least is the pasta salad which is getting increasingly popular as the days pass by. You can make this a great starter for your BBQ parties and family dinners.

Here is worth mentioning that for a dish to be called a SALAD. It has to have at least 2 or more than two ingredients. 

In the end, I would like to say that don’t restrict your creativity and try creating new types of salad combinations using the left-over items in your fridge or by using premium seasonal fruits or vegetables. How about a nice bowl of sugar to empower your morning? No? Then why are you still smearing Nutella on your toast? The nutritional breakdown of Nutella is terrifying. Dear OiB readers, please do not attempt to fuel your body, or your children’s bodies, with this utter garbage.

Nutella Ingredients:

Sugar, modified palm oil, hazelnuts, cocoa, skimmed milk powder, whey powder, lecithin, and vanillin

The nutritional breakdown of Nutella is more startling than the fact it is made up almost completely of sugar.

Nutella contains 70% saturated fat. A two-tablespoon (37 gram) serving contains 200 calories. 99 of those calories comes from 11 grams of fat. The other 80 calories comes from 21 grams of sugar. Plus, the second ingredient is a modified vegetable oil that is not only eco-friendly, it is full of saturated and trans fats!

Almond butter, on the other hand, is pure awesomeness in a jar.

 Almonds, as you may know, are praised highly in the medical world for having monosaturated fatty acids (MUFAs), dietary fiber, vitamins, antioxidants, and trace amounts of essential minerals. Though they are high in calories, they are incredibly energy dense. No empty calories here!

DIY Recipe for Homemade Almond Butter

All you need is roasted almonds (around 1 pound/16 oz/453 grams for a single jar) and a food processor with an S-shaped blade.

 Directions:

  1. Warm the almonds in the oven at about 250 degrees F/120 degrees C for 10-15 minutes. You want the almonds to be warm to the touch. This helps the oils release faster when churning them.
  2. Grab your food processor. Depending on the size, I recommend topping the amount of cups added to about 3. Smaller models may only take 1 ½ cups. Pour in the almonds, turn on the food processor, and let it begin to break the nuts down.
  3. After a while, you will notice the almonds turning to paste (probably around 10-15 minutes in). Stop the processor, scrape the sides, and mash the paste down to keep the processing even. You will need to repeat this several times.
  4. At around 20 minutes, the wad of almond paste will begin to release oils and break down further. It will look slightly grainy.
  5. Within 5 minutes of that mark, your almond butter will become smooth and creamy. Give it a stir to check the consistency before storing in a jar.

Takes some time, but oh, it is totally worth it. I actually think it is a bit addicting!

Almond butter is so delicious and nutritious. Throw out your Nutella. Burn the jars. Never buy it again. Buy some roasted almonds instead to make your own nut butter. After all, almond butter can be used in many recipes, just like peanut butter, but without the fear of peanut allergies!
