4 Natural Preservatives to Add to DIY Recipes

4 Natural Preservatives to Add to DIY Recipes –

If you have been reading recently, you may have seen the list about toxic substances found in your skincare and beauty products (like parabens, phthalates, and artificial coloring). One of the best way to avoid these harmful chemicals is to make your own skincare home remedies. But the main issue with is how you keep your all natural DIY deodorant from getting funky. Allow me to introduce you to 4 natural preservatives that will save your DIY home remedies.

First, remember that whenever you aim to make an organic DIY alternative to your favorite store-bought beauty products, they will never last as long as commercial products do. That is why I recommend opting to make smaller batches, because even with added organic preservatives, the shelf life is still short.

Here are my favorite natural preservatives:

Neem Oil

This is a magical vegetable oil used in India. It is made from the fruits and seeds of the neem tree. Despite the strong smell, neem is not used for cooking but in Indian cosmetics, such as soap, hair products, creams, and lotions, as well as in Ayurveda medicine. In Ayurvedic applications, neem oil works as a diuretic, contraceptive, antiseptic, and pesticide. It is pretty amazing for the skin too, so add a bit of neem oil to DIY skincare products.

The only warning I have to give is if you are trying to conceive. Neem oil, neem leaves, and neem tea all affect fertility in men and women.

Rosemary Extract

Beautiful rosemary not only smells pleasant, the extractives are fantastic for warding off premature decay. Rosemary extract and essential oil has two antimicrobial components—carnosic and rosmaranic acids. Plus, rosemary has 24 active antioxidants that have a longer activity span than other popular natural preservatives, like sugar or tocopherols. Add it to your food stores, natural toothpaste, mouthwash, and facewash.

 Lemon Juice

Containing high vitamin C (ascorbic acid) and some citric acid, lemon juice behaves as a powerful antioxidant, disinfectant, and preservative. Like salt, lemon juice balances the pH factor and acids found in many natural ingredients. As for the citric acid, you many already see that used in beverages, food, cosmetics, and even pharmaceuticals for maintaining flavor and taste of such products. Pair with vinegar (ascetic acid) for advanced protection from spoilage.

 Grapefruit Seed Extract

Grapefruit is such a miraculous superfood, so it is no wonder the seeds are fantastic as well. The extractives act as antibiotics, antiseptics, disinfectants, and preservatives. Many “skin-clearing” commercial products utilize grapefruit seed oil; but these oils are also effective against more than 800 bacterial and viral organisms  and fungal strains.

For OiB readers that like to make their own acne or eczema skincare, I cannot recommend grapefruit seed extract enough.

How to get started with Grapefruit oil?

From working women to homemakers, haven’t we all felt, at some point, that we could take so much better care of ourselves if only we had more time? Even if you can manage the time in the hectic 21st-century life, it is so difficult to find the right mix of skincare and healthcare products. But what if I told you that you can achieve a healthy body and mind in less time than it takes to write that latest report for your boss? What if I told you that your skincare will be taken care of faster than your kid comes home from school?

DIY Solution is here

What if I told you that nature has given us a single DIY solution that will take care of everything? An essential oil so powerful, not only it can enhance your skin, but also make you healthier physically and mentally? I know it sounds too good to be true, but today on OiB I bring you exactly that. Presenting grapefruit oil, the organic nectar known as ‘happy oil’ in many parts of the world.

Originating from Asia, grapefruit oil is the most popular essential oil in Israel (as popular as lavender in England). It is grown in Asia, the US, and Brazil. It is used in perfumes for all genders and ages, and is known to uplift the spirit and improve the mood.

Now read about benefits

The oil has various health benefits. Being a strong antioxidant, it eliminates unwanted bacteria and toxins from the body. It is also a diuretic, which promotes urination. Thus it organically eliminates fats, sodium, and kіdnеу dероsіts as well. Grapefruit oil is an excellent disinfectant, naturally keeping the body healthier and free from infections.

While detoxifying the body from the inside, it is also an anti-cellulite which gives you a sexier shape. Also, it can be used to clear acne and pimples, as well as to get rid of oily skin. It is also good for oral health, which gives you a fresh and sweet-smelling breath. This makes it one ‘wonder oil’ which naturally takes care of your skincare needs and enhances your personality.

Rice Powder and Green Tea Leaf tips

If these benefits were not enough, grapefruit oil can also double up as an organic anti-depressant. It simulates the body and makes you feel refreshed and alive. It relaxes the muscles and nerves, making you appear relaxed and youthful!  I personally love it 😉

Let’s make grapefruit Cellulite Cream at home

• Mix grapefruit essential oil and coconut oil together
• Store in glass container
• Rub into areas of cellulite for 5 minutes daily

Citrus essentials oils are highly concentrated and are full of healthy acidic properties! Because of this, it is recommended that you use glass containers when storing them so they do not eat away any of the plastic.
