Almonds – Organicisbeautiful.com

How about a nice bowl of sugar to empower your morning? No? Then why are you still smearing Nutella on your toast? The nutritional breakdown of Nutella is terrifying. Dear OiB readers, please do not attempt to fuel your body, or your children’s bodies, with this utter garbage.

Nutella Ingredients:

Sugar, modified palm oil, hazelnuts, cocoa, skimmed milk powder, whey powder, lecithin, and vanillin

The nutritional breakdown of Nutella is more startling than the fact it is made up almost completely of sugar.

Nutella contains 70% saturated fat. A two-tablespoon (37 gram) serving contains 200 calories. 99 of those calories comes from 11 grams of fat. The other 80 calories comes from 21 grams of sugar. Plus, the second ingredient is a modified vegetable oil that is not only eco-friendly, it is full of saturated and trans fats!

Almond butter, on the other hand, is pure awesomeness in a jar.

Almonds, as you may know, are praised highly in the medical world for having monosaturated fatty acids (MUFAs), dietary fiber, vitamins, antioxidants, and trace amounts of essential minerals. Though they are high in calories, they are incredibly energy dense. No empty calories here!

When you consume almonds or almond butter, you get the following benefits:

  •  Increased brain cell communication
  • Protection from the sun (thanks to trace amounts of copper)
  • Healthy bones
  • More energy
  • Prevent heart disease
  • Improved blood cholesterol
  • Controlled blood sugar levels
  • Weight loss

Time to throw your Nutella away and grab some organic almond butter. If you do not know where to find some in the store, almond butter is very easy to make!

DIY Recipe for Homemade Almond Butter

All you need is roasted almonds (around 1 pound/16 oz/453 grams for a single jar) and a food processor with an S-shaped blade.

 Directions:

  1. Warm the almonds in the oven at about 250 degrees F/120 degrees C for 10-15 minutes. You want the almonds to be warm to the touch. This helps the oils release faster when churning them.
  2. Grab your food processor. Depending on the size, I recommend topping the amount of cups added to about 3. Smaller models may only take 1 ½ cups. Pour in the almonds, turn on the food processor, and let it begin to break the nuts down.
  3. After a while, you will notice the almonds turning to paste (probably around 10-15 minutes in). Stop the processor, scrape the sides, and mash the paste down to keep the processing even. You will need to repeat this several times.
  4. At around 20 minutes, the wad of almond paste will begin to release oils and break down further. It will look slightly grainy.
  5. Within 5 minutes of that mark, your almond butter will become smooth and creamy. Give it a stir to check the consistency before storing in a jar.

Takes some time, but oh, it is totally worth it. I actually think it is a bit addicting!

Almond butter is so delicious and nutritious. Throw out your Nutella. Burn the jars. Never buy it again. Buy some roasted almonds instead to make your own nut butter. After all, almond butter can be used in many recipes, just like peanut butter, but without the fear of peanut allergies!

So are you ready to make this huge change? 🙂

7 Benefits of Quinoa, The World Healthiest Food.

Quinoa dates back three to four thousand years ago when the Incas first realized that the quinoa seed was fit for human consumption. According to WHFoods quinoa “was the gold of the Incas” because the Incas believed it increased the stamina of their warriors. The Quinoa Corporation calls quinoa the “Supergrain of the Future. ”

Who would not want to reap the benefits of this amazing superfood? Information sourced from MBG

Here are seven health benefits of quinoa:

1. Quinoa is one of the most protein-rich foods we can eat. It is a complete protein containing all nine essential amino acids.

2. Quinoa contains almost twice as much fiber as most other grains. Fiber is most widely known to relieve constipation. It also helps to prevent heart disease by reducing high blood pressure and diabetes. Fiber lowers cholesterol and glucose levels, may lower your risk of developing hemorrhoids and may help you to lose weight as it takes a longer time to chew than does other foods because it makes you feel fuller for longer and is less “energy dense” which means it has fewer calories for the same volume of food.

3. Quinoa contains Iron. Iron helps keep our red blood cells healthy and is the basis of hemoglobin formation. Iron carries oxygen from one cell to another and supplies oxygen to our muscles to aid in their contraction. Iron also increases brain function because the brain takes in about 20% of our blood oxygen. There are many benefits of iron some more of which include neurotransmitter synthesis, regulation of body temperature, aids enzyme activity and energy metabolism.

4. Quinoa contains lysine. Lysine is mainly essential for tissue growth and repair.

5. Quinoa is rich in magnesium. Magnesium helps to relax blood vessels and thereby to alleviate migraines. Magnesium also may reduce Type 2 diabetes by promoting healthy blood sugar control. Other health benefits of magnesium include transmission of nerve impulses, body temperature regulation, detoxification, energy production, and the formation of healthy bones and teeth.

6. Quinoa is high in Riboflavin (B2). B2 improves energy metabolism within brain and muscle cells and is known to help create proper energy production in cells.

7. Quinoa has a high content of manganese. Manganese is an antioxidant, which helps to prevent damage of mitochondria during energy production as well as to protect red blood cells and other cells from injury by free radicals.

A Better Sleep with Amazing & Natural Scent.

Today, lets discover together how a few drop of essential oils in your bedroom can tremendously help you reach the calm and relaxing sleep. Say bye to insomnia with OiB.

The traditional Lavender

One of the more popular and traditional aroma therapies, lavender brings a fair amount of clinical evidence showing its effect on sleep. Lavender is a flowering plant that grows natively in the Mediterranean, but can now be found to flourish in sunny and warm climates all over Australia & Europe. It is a shrub with a woody stalk and small budding flowers that range in colors from light blues to purple.

Lavender scents tend to improve the overall sleep quality for a variety of ages and genders. However, the smell is typically most effective on women, younger people, and those with mild insomnia (rather than severe).

The refreshing Peppermint

Peppermint oil is derived from the leaves of the peppermint plant or Mentha pipertita, a hybrid of the water mint and spearmint plants, and M. arvensis var. piperascensa, a plant from the Labiatae family.

The essential oil is often used as a home remedy for stomach problems, muscle pain, and headaches. Signs show that the refreshing herb is good for more than Mint Juleps – the smell of it can actually make you less tired.

One study put participants in a dark room for about ten minutes and then measured their sleepiness. Those that were exposed to peppermint oil during their little time-out showed less sleepiness than those that were in the dark with no smells.

Peppermint is one of the easiest plants to grow in your garden, and is almost bulletproof. Plant a little by your front door, and grab a handful as you head to work in the morning. Or, pick up some peppermint oil for a more clinical approach.

Combo Lemon & Sage.

Tea time, consider camomile tea | OrganicIsBeautiful

Get a lemon and take a big bite, that’ll wake you up.

If you want a slightly less lip-puckering stimulant, then the smell of lemon oil could do the trick. You can also make it a warm relaxing tea, combining with Honey and Ginger.

If lemon tea is not your cup of tea, another herb, sage, also works as a natural sleep aid. Just steep 4 tablespoons in a cup of hot water, steep for four hours, strain, and reheat to drink.

The Superstar, Chamomile.

Camomile | OrganicIsBeautiful

Chamomile is of course the superstar of night time teas.

Chamomile, scientifically known as Matricaria recutita and also called German chamomile, is normally employed by natural healers to treat digestive disorders, colds, muscle spasms, skin rashes, inflamed gums and infections.

But it is the herb’s ability to reduce anxiety, elevate mood and combat insomnia that is presently of particular interest to medical researchers. There’s precious little evidence that it has any sedative effects, yet millions of people continue to drink it before going to bed.
