What’s the deal with Salads anyway? Some people adore salads whereas some despise them. I would say that after potato chips salad is the most popular item in restaurants all over the world. That’s why Today on OiB I will enlighten you with the different types of salads and how you can make them creative and tasty in a healthy way.  

By definition a salad is strictly speaking a combination of meat, vegetables, fruit, nuts or cheese either cooked or raw and served with any dressing or dip. 

Now that we’re clear with what a Salad actually is; let’s focus on the different varieties of salads you can find in functions, events, parties and family dinners.  

  1. Green Salad: The most common type of salad which can be found in restaurants all over the world. Lettuce is the main ingredient in this salad – after that you can add vegetables, meat, fish, nuts or eggs to complement the taste and nutrients. This type of salad is typically topped with mayonnaise or oil based vinegar.
  2. Vegetable Salad: As the name states, this type of salad mostly consists of blanched vegetables along with cheese and nuts. Occasionally fruit may also be added. But, a sauce or dressing is a must as it helps in combining all the flavors together.
  3. Mixed Green Salads: This salad is a mixture of numerous types of lettuces. Some varieties are sweet whereas others can be bit sour. The dressing of vinaigrette is usually prefereed as it helps in releasing the flavors of lettuces.
  4. Fruit Salads: This type of salad is my personal favorite because it is super tasty and you can eat it any time of the day you want without any hassle. As the name states, this salad strictly comprises of fruits (either canned or seasonal) and sometimes whipped cream can be added for extra facor.
  5. Seafood Salads: Just ask your relatives or friends living away from rivers or sea and they will tell you of how much they crave for fresh and tasty seafood. Adding flakes of a freshly caught fish into a green salad can do wonders because the taste is just extraordinary. Oh, and fish is extremely healthy and good for your health.
  6. Complete Meal Salads: If you have left-over meat from yesterday’s dinner don’t just throw it away. Instead, add some eggs, cheese and vegetables in it and voila! You have got yourself a meal salad. The Italians have been doing this since centuries and they call it the antipasto salad. Pasta Salads: Last but not the least is the pasta salad which is getting increasingly popular as the days pass by. You can make this a great starter for your BBQ parties and family dinners.

Here is worth mentioning that for a dish to be called a SALAD. It has to have at least 2 or more than two ingredients. 

In the end, I would like to say that don’t restrict your creativity and try creating new types of salad combinations using the left-over items in your fridge or by using premium seasonal fruits or vegetables. Ginger on skincare? Sorry! Yes. You heard correctly 😉 Native from China and India, ginger is way more than just that an ordinary plants. It has a number of properties to qualify as a beauty booster as well. And the best part? The ingredient is one that is almost at all times sitting at the bottom of your vegetable basket. Besides rubbing a fresh ginger slice, one can also apply fresh ginger juice for the same effect. If it is applied twice or thrice a day, it can help to remove different scars too.

This takes effect in 6 to 12 weeks while the ginger slice should be fresh every time you apply it.

Hyper-pigmentation can also be solved with the help of ginger. The white spots are now no more of a problem at all. The skin becomes lighter or white at some places in comparison to other patches of the skin. The use of ginger reduces the appearance of this pigmentation.

If you apply a fresh slice of ginger to your skin and leave it on for some time, then the results can sometimes be seen in just 2 weeks.

Mediterranean Pizza with Cauliflower

This recipe is great for beginners, comer backers, and those who love to work with their hands. This “pizza” would work great with any choice of toppings, however I chose to make a Mediterranean version to eaaaaaaaaaaase myself back in.

 The Recipe – 

The Crust:

  • 1 medium head of cauliflower cut into florets
  • 1/2 cup powdered parmesan cheese
  • 1 tsp Italian seasoning
  • 1sp salt
  • 1 large egg

Toppings:

  • 1 can olives; drained (you can choose any olives you like, I went with green)

  • 1 can artichoke hearts; drained
  • feta cheese; crumbled
  • 1 jar sun dried tomatoes
  • fresh arugula
  • olive oil
  • balsamic vinegar

LEVEL: Easy

Directions – 

Preheat the oven to 425 degrees F. Line a rimmed baking sheet with parchment paper.
Using a food processor, pulse the cauliflower florets to a fine powder (it should resemble snow and you should have about 2 1/2 cups).

Next, transfer the processed cauliflower to a microwave-safe bowl. Cover the bowl with plastic wrap and puncture the plastic 3-4 times with a fork. Microwave cauliflower 4 minutes. Next, on a thin, clean, dry kitchen towel, dump out the cauliflower and allow to cool.

Once cool enough to handle, wrap the cauliflower in the towel and wring out as much moisture as possible (you will be surprised by the amount of water. This may take a few minutes.) In a large bowl, stir together the cauliflower, Parmesan, Italian seasoning, salt, and egg until well combined.

Transfer to the prepared baking sheet and press into a 10-inch round. It is important to make sure your round is thin and even. Bake until golden, 10 to 15 minutes. (I did 10 minutes).

Next, remove the crust from the oven. Once it is cool to the touch, brush the crust with olive oil and sprinkle with chopped olives, artichoke hearts, sun dried tomatoes, and feta cheese.

Place back in the oven for an additional 10 minutes.

While the pizza is cooking, in a large bowl dress the arugula with olive oil and balsamic vinegar. When the pizza is done, remove from oven and transfer to a serving plate and top with dressed arugula.

Stop right there! If you begin to doubt yourself, the commentators will increase, so will your doubts. Your confidence level will go further down, making your life miserable. No Superheroes will come to your rescue. You are your own Super hero. Start now! Stop this mess and hit the boost button. Here is how you do it.

Here are some don’ts that you could use, listed originally here.

  • Asking others for approval – “Am I looking fat?”, whether it is to hear a ‘No’ from a person or whether it is a genuine question, you are giving the permission to someone else to assess you. If you feel that you are fat and want to reduce, do what is necessary. If not, leave it. But do not place your self confidence in someone else’s hands.
  • Putting Yourself Down – “It wouldn’t suit me. I’m fat/thin/dusky” When you say this repeatedly to someone, whether you are fat or not, your belief becomes their belief. Later on, there is no point complaining when they comment on your looks.
  • Agreeing With Someone Who Comments on You – A Big No! It isn’t about throwing stones at every barking dog. It is about keeping up your self respect and not letting anyone else trample you. If you entertain them today, many more will join. You will end up feeling worthless. So, when they pass a comment that brings your confidence level down, boost it up by telling them that you feel wonderful this way. They will stop in a while.
