6 Tips to Get Your Lips Back After Winter

Today on OiB, I will discuss how to get your lips back from winter. Summer is already here which is why you can get back your lips fairly easily. Your lips do not get the ample amount of sun light needed during winter when the sun is not shining at its best and there is no source of Vitamin in this way. I tell you these natural ways so you don’t have to waste money or risk any
effects.

 Castor Oil

Dry lips can be greatly revived using castor oil by putting it on your lips several times a day or by using it to make a mixture of one teaspoon oil with a teaspoon of glycerin and lemon juice (few drops). The well mixed mixture is applied overnight to be washed with warm water right in the morning. You shall see that your lips shall be healed within no time after a few repetitions.

 Honey

In addition to providing great moist lips, honey is the only cure that also heals the lips by providing it anti-bacterial properties. Pure organic honey is applied on lips for many times a day. A honey and glycerin paste also works well and very if it is applied overnight.
The treatment not only brings back your lips that have been lost during the winter and have prone to become dry and dull, but also softens the lips at the very same time. Hence this is the most efficient and probably the best treatment of all times.

 Sugar

Softness can also be achieved faster along by removing the dead cells that have formed your lip’s upper layer by using sugar. Only 2 teaspoons sugar mixed with a teaspoon of honey can make wonders in very few minutes.
The paste applied to the lips is rubbed well around the lips to take off the dead cells and wash them with warm water.

 Rose Petals
If you want perfectly good lips that are also red and rosy then just mix a few rose petals in water to soak them thoroughly in milk for a few hours and make them into a thick paste by mashing out the petals.

Application of this paste twice or thrice during the day and even at night greatly helps to achieve your goal. For those who are allergic to milk, they can use glycerin instead of milk fairly well.

 Cream
You can put on fresh milk cream on your lips for 10 minutes and wash it with a warm water dipped cotton ball. It is the milk cream’s high fat content that brings about the pure moisturization.

 Coconut Oil

If you’re tired of those chapped lips after winter, just dab on some coconut oil many times during the day on your lips to keep them moist throughout or even use olive oil for the same.

Gone Exploring My First Moringa Tree plantation…in Cambodia!

Moringa is one of the world’s most useful plants.

This fast-growing tree is grown throughout the tropics for human food, livestock forage, medicine, dye, and water purification.

It is known by several names in different countries, but is popularly called the “drumstick tree” for its pods that are used by drummers and the “horseradish tree” for the flavor of its roots.

Where it started: little India!

Living in Kuala Lumpur, I (re)discovered the diversity of the Indian cuisine. It’s a constant mix, an assortment of spices and herbs.

Shopping around in Little India one evening, I (literately speaking) bumped into my first Moringa seeds. I took a picture (see on the right): I did not know what it was at the time. Looking surprised, the staff assistant came to me and said, proudly:

“Moringa tree, oh very Good. Eat and brain & skin very strong!”.

I needed to learn more. Ready to get your feet dirty in a small plantation in the deep Cambodia land?

In my earlier article, we explore the multiple benefits of the Moringa tree. Today, we head to a local  plantation to understand how Moringa trees can be produced in a natural and economical way.

As mentioned, it was during my trip to Cambodia that I had the chance to travel around the country and meet local producers that specialized in chemical-free Moringa tree plantation. There are many different species of Moringa trees, the one I have uncovered is the Moringa Oleifera.

  • Trees are often spaced in a line one meter or less apart in order to create living fence posts
  • Moringa trees do not need much watering, which make them ideally suited for the climate of places such as SEA.
  • All the picture shown in this article represents Moringa Oleifera, the most widely cultivated specie.
  • Moringa is resistant to most pests.

In the first and third pictures, you can seed Moringa seeds. Those seeds are used to create Moringa oil. A pure Moringa oil, with no additive or preservatives, apply to your skin daily, or after a weekly exfoliation help the skin rejuvenate.

What makes Organicly produced Moringa trees better?

The answer: the compost! The botanicals used to produce Moringa trees are grown in soils that are free of chemicals. Chemicals such as pesticides, fungicides and fertilizers are actually prohibited and never used.

The major issue nowadays with so-called ‘organic’ composts available to farmers is that they add the composted contents of green waste from our household recycling centers.

The farmer I met produced his own compost from animal manure (mainly from the cow) and it takes approximately half a year of storage to become completely ready for fertilizer.

What are the benefits of using compost?

  • Increases organic matter in the soil.
  • Higher yields – studies show that you can improve maximum yield potential by increasing the amount of organic matter in the soil.
  • Inorganic fertilizer substitution – compost contains slow release, crop-available nutrients, including phosphate, potash, magnesium and sulfur.
  • Improves soil structure for better workability and better crop establishment
  • Better soil structure and water management – adding compost improves soil structure, which is good for crops (good water infiltration and retention) and also makes it easier to work, saving fuel and time.
  • Increases water infiltration and retention.

Are you into gardening? Then, Moringa trees is for you! I learnt that they are fast growers and can be havested while just 1.5-2meters tall. Moringa can grow in a diversity of environment, (South Carolina, Ethiopia, you named it!): it can grow in dry, poor or sandy soils.

How to harvest a Moringa tree? Simple. Cutting away half a meter form the tops and drying the the shade.

After the harvesting, the leaves are collected and sent to the wharehouse for cleaning and drying.

The Moringa leaves are then washed with water and salt and rinse at least twice. It is then left to dry 2 or 3 days before any further action.

In summary,

Moringa trees is widely available in SEA, production has been in the recent years industrialized, and in my quest for organic alternative, I noticed how challenging it was to visit a 100%organic farm. Yet, they still exist 😉

Once cleaned, dried and packaged, Moringa trees offers a variety of benefits. Women can used it to improve their skin strength, keeping a nice and natural glow in their face.

The seeds, once pulverized are sold as powder supplement, multivitamin drink for athletes. It is said to be helpful within a balanced diet.

1380 participants has signed up for the Angkor Marathon last August. And I was one of them! And today, I share with you my runner experience. Because, to say the least, it has always been in my must-do marathon since a while!

Imagine yourself running in the heart of an world heritage, the 8th World Wonder? The site has something mystical. Its stone carved creatures, its enormous size, and its aged temples are definitely a marvel worth visiting. And it is captivating enough to dare running along ancient temples sprinked with ancient trees.

The before

A 6am race start meant an early wake-up call.

Alarm set at 4:30am, quick breakfast and ready to go at 5am sharp. My tutuk was ready to pick me up at my hotel entrance.

After my 20min tutuk journey to the site, we arrived: it was still dark, quiet yet vibrant.  It didn’t seem like there were too many participants – until we got to the start. There is was: the others! The crowd! Very calm and mild athmosphere, I knew it would start to heat up when the race starts.

I was nervous at the start, relaxing was not on the road. As a runner, I get very results-oriented, it was unfortunately not the first time I found myself guilty of losing the perspective of what running is really about, and how lucky I am to be able to do this. It is my own Achille heels I need to overcome I hope to overcome by experience.

In an epic lapse in reasoning, I decided it would be better to deviate from my pre-race warming plan and find a quiet area away the crowds to breath and free my mind.

The beginning: 1-10km

On August 9th, I run 21km in 2hrs35min. Out of 2hrs35min running were a deep and one-way a 1hrs30 of mental talk.

What I love about marathon is that it basically forces you to confront weaknesses head on, exposing your limitations as well as your strengths.

There is no short cut.

The first 10km took me under 55min. I do not recall any particular pain or mental crackdown. My only distraction was the sightseeing I was deeply amazed by. I was running at a conversational path. A few words exchanged with fellows running, the usual “Where are you from?”, or “Good shoes”, and I was back on my solo run.

An amazing scenery

I love the sounds of my feet hitting the road, and the peace and quiet and solitude. It is here that I do some of my best creative thinking 😉

While running, it was simply impossible to be bored, I felt like a kid, astonished by the beauty of the nature. They were so much to see: the botanical surroundings, details the old temples. Trees, monkeys, dogs, local Cambodians were all part of the scenery. And monks.

The moment was brief. At km 12, the distance caught up to me. I realized how much my legs hurt and how badly I wanted to walk. I had been running nearly continuously up until then, minus a taking the few odds picture.

12 to 17km, that’s 5km.

One word: the humidity.

It sounds like a forgettable value now that I write this post, but at that time, it felt endless. Crossing the finish line was everything I dreamed about.

Those “5km” represents represents a slow and painful phase that I love to call “Keep running”. Do not think about:

  • The humidity
  • The humidity

Even when wearing the appropriate high tech sweat running clothing everyone tolerates high heat and humidity differently.

Any runner will now about this situation. I had one of those moments where you see someone coming back to you and although sprinting hard already, wondered if I gave it EVERYTHING I could get past him, and indeed, if I really cared about giving it everything.

I got angry with myself for thinking about it.

Straight to the finish line

What made the difference? The crowd support. The scenery too. I gave it all. I am fully aware that I often grimace with effort during the race. Can’t help it! I can get a smile (or what I like to believe looks like a smile) when I see kids smiling at me along the way.

It took me 2hrs33min to run 21km. The result was amazing yet disappointing considering my past result. The Bali Marathon ended with a kicking 2h15min. That’s in 15min difference. A small and huge difference.

The end

As soon as I crossed THAT finished line, I genuinely felt on holidays, just the sand beach and the coconut juice missing.

I was exhausted, but I could not stop smiling 😉 It was done, over and to be repeated soon. The big plus of the marathon, the after-care of participant. You could receive a massage (that they call “Therapy”?!), grab some coconuts, beers or even buy yourself some new sunglasses 😉 Why not?

I took one last picture of the temples and headed over to my tutuk, who was patiently chatting over with other drivers like today was just an ordinary day in both our life.
