The stunning beauty of Rio de Janeiro—affectionately called “Rio” by many—is something that attractions millions of visitors throughout the world to the city every single year. Rio de Janeiro may be the second largest metropolitan in Brazil, but it has the most heart and appeal. A week in Rio will be one of adventure, romance, and memories made.

 The Places You Must Go

Though there are numerous locations and attractions for you to see in Rio de Janeiro, these are the recommended must-see spots:

  1. Sugarloaf Mountain

Everyone who has gone to Rio talks about this mountain. It is always at the top of the must-see lists, too. Sugarloaf Mountain is a colossal peak of granite and quartz stones in the middle of Guanabara Bay. Take the 20-minute cable car ride up to the base, called Babilonia Hill then continue the hike from there.

  1. Lapa Neighborhood

Once Rio’s red light district, Lapa is now the epicenter of nightlife and vivid Brazilian culture. Whether you simply want to see architecture dating back to the 1800s or party it up at the samba and choro bars, Lapa has something for everyone. Be sure to try the national cocktail, caipirinha, which comes from sugarcane liquor and lime. Then try to climb the famous mosaic stairway, Escadaria Selaron.

  1. Jardim Botantico

Otherwise known as Rio’s botanical gardens. Built in the 1800s, the garden has since then grown to house over 8000 species of flora from around the world. The recommended area is the long pathway lined with mammoth palm trees. For those who love education, the Museu do Meio Ambiente, which focuses on nature preservation and various environments, is for you.

  1. Ipanema and Copacabana

These two beaches are famous around the world. The sights, the sounds, the soft sand, and the shopping make Ipanema a winner for those seeking luxury. Copacabana is where you can find Fort Copacabana, which now operates as a wartime museum. Plenty to see and do here—not just swimming!

  1. Tijuca National Park

Located within this broad expanse of green is Rio de Janeiro’s highest mountain, the Pico da Tijuca. At the top of the mountain, you will be gifted with breathtaking views of Guanabara Bay. The national park has a fascinating history, as well as attractions to be found amongst the leaves. Be sure to stop by for the Mayrink Chapel, which features hand-painted murals by the famous painter Candido Portinari, and the gorgeous Cascatinha Waterfall.

Transportation Tips

Locals will tell you to never rent a car, because the traffic is, one, crazy, and two, the price of the rental is outrageous. If you are on a budget, consider taking the public transportation.

The BRT (Bus Rapid Transport) in Rio de Janeiro is not only reliable, the roads have dedicated lanes for these buses. You should always try the subway system, which rarely gets behind schedule. The BRT also has express service to and from the international airport.

Rio de Janeiro is a city that is impossible to describe. The energy and personality is captivating. You will find yourself swept up by the passionate music, the delicious food, and the jaw-dropping beauty of the landscape.

Wherever you go, Rio will never disappoint!

Brazil Nut Oil

I tried Brazil Nut Oil for my hair, the result is amazing!

In most cases, I am not the type of person to buy very popular or very new beauty products. I know that there are a number of products on there which people claim to be brilliant but are just downright terrible. For a good long while, I avoided Brazil nut oil. This was a huge mistake. Let me run you through the experience I had with it.

I tried two types of Brazil nut oil. Firstly, I tried shampoo which claimed to contain Brazil nut oil. I am going, to be honest with you here, I did not notice any benefit when I used it.  I almost gave up at this point, then somebody told me to try pure Brazil nut oil. I am glad I did.

I started applying the Brazil nut oil to my hair and I noticed huge changes within a day. One of the main reasons as to why I started to look into a ‘natural solution’ like this is because I noticed that my hair had started to look a bit dull and lifeless. In addition to that, I was experiencing split end after split end. This, obviously, was not good. I tried a number of different solutions before and none of them really seemed to work. Then I discovered Brazil nut oil.

Saturday Relaxation with Dead Sea Salt and Ginger

Within days, the life in my hair had come back. Since Brazil nut oil, apparently, encourages hair growth, my hair looked fuller within weeks of me starting to use the natural oil. In addition to this, the hair was thicker. Split ends were now a thing of the past. In fact, I do not think I have had a single split end since I started to use Brazil nut oil. My hair has never looked or felt better.

Once my friends started to see the huge impact that the Brazil nut oil had on my hair (I loved the compliments!) I told them what they needed to do. Within a few weeks, all of them had experienced exactly the same results that I had. They ended up with stunning looking hair, and it didn’t require any effort on their part either! All they needed to do was apply some of the oil to their hair and they were pretty much ‘good to go’.

Remember, if you wish to get the same benefits that I did with Brazil nut oil, it is important that you choose an oil which is incredibly high in quality. This means only the purest of nut oil that you can find. Your natural health food store should carry some. If not, try to get it online!

Have you tried Brazil nut oil too? Let me know of your experiences below! 😉

Honey has been my facial cleanser of choice for the past 6 months, and my skin is loving it! The purpose of the honey cleansing method is towash your face without stripping your skin from its natural oils, while nourishing your skin with all of the lovely benefits of honey.

The benefits of using honey as a face wash:

Antibacterial, helps prevent acne
Healing, helps treat acne and discoloration
Moisturizing, hydration is key for maintaining a youthful complexion
Antioxidants,key for anti-aging
Gentle on delicate skin
Honey is perfect for all skin types, it moisturizes dry skin andbalances oily skin

How to:

Honey will not remove makeup so if you have any on you will need to take it off beforehand
Use honey as you would any other cleanser, both morning and night; rub it in to your skin in light circular motions, concentrating on any problem…

TIPS: It is important to use raw honey because pasteurized honey is heated and most of the beneficial properties are lost in the process. I like to use organic raw honey because it is the highest quality, which makes it the best option for my skin.

My Results:

My skin is sensitive, combination, and acne prone. Before the honey cleansing method I typically had moderate breakouts, some type of small blemish on my face everyday, and occasionally those awfully painful blemishes, along with very dry skin around my nose and chin.

I began by only cleansing with honey for the first 2 months, and once my skin was dramatically improved I started using a gel cleanser in the evening paired with a clarisonic (see my AM and PM skincare routine.) My complexion is smooth, radiant, and my breakouts are under control. My pores are more refined too! However, I still break out occasionally, but my blemishes are a lot smaller and heal up faster.

Further tips:

→ If you have longer hair make sure it is pulled back tight, and if you have bangs make sure they are out of the way (I always use a headband)
I find this easiest to do in front of a mirror so you can make sure the honey is evenly distributed and completely rinsed off.
→ If you plan to let your honey sit for awhile make sure you don’t have too much on or it will drip!
If any honey happens to get in your hairline go over those spots with a damp cotton ball or washcloth to clean it up
Busy morning? Lazy night? Let your honey sit while you brush your teeth!

In few words, I highly recommend trying this out! If you’re not ready to set your current facial cleanser aside, try honey cleansing only in the morning or doing a honey mask a few times a week.

If you have a known honey, bee, or pollen allergy this isn’t for you, if you’re not sure, do a test patch on your wrist, let it sit for 10 minutes, rinse, and check if that area feels sensitive or has a noticeable reaction.
