Essential oils make some of the most powerful antibacterial products around. While there are a number of essential oils which are perfect for keeping bacteria at bay, there are seven of them which stand head and shoulders above the rest. It is these that we will be taking a look at on this page.

Number One: Eucalyptus

This has been used for medicinal purposes for centuries. It is often used to treat wounds such as burns and cuts. In addition to this, you can actually find eucalyptus in a variety of different dental products. This is because it is brilliant at fighting cavities and keeping various dental conditions at bay.

Number Two: Peppermint

Peppermint, as you may well know, is used for dental purposes. Most toothpaste on the market is mint flavored. This isn’t just because it tastes good, but because it is a powerful antibacterial. In addition to this, it can help to fight nail infection. When consumed (not via toothpaste) it can also provide a nice little boost to the immune system which will keep your health in tip-top condition.

Number Three: Lavender

Lavender is a powerful antibacterial. It is used to treat a variety of different skin conditions. However, it is most effective on acne and psoriasis. In fact, this is one of the main reasons as to why you will find Lavender added to some of the most popular skin care products out there on the market. It helps to prevent acne.

In addition to this, acne is known for its ability to provide a person with protection from bacteria if they are dealing with a cut or sunburn.

Number Four: Tea Tree Oil

This can be applied directly to the skin. The others will, likely, have to be diluted with some other oil. Tea tree oil is often used to deal with skin infections. This includes warts, eczema, and acne. However, it has also been proven to be useful when it comes to the treatment of athlete’s foot. Tea Tree Oil is actually one of only a few products out there on the market which your doctor will recommend that you keep to hand at all times. It is just that useful!

Bergamot is not oil that you can apply to your skin. Well, you can do that, but most of the benefit occurs when it is ingested. This is because it can help to fight off urinary tract infections, meningitis etc.

Number six: Lemongrass

This can help fight off bacteria in a number of different situations. For example, lemongrass is known for its ability to combat body odor, malaria, and bacteria which causes food poisoning. It also acts as a natural antiseptic. This means that you can use it when you are dealing with cuts and scrapes.

Number seven: Oregano

Finally, Oregano is an essential oil which has been used since ancient Greece. Back then, they discovered that it was brilliant at fighting off infections and bacteria on the skin. You can use it for the same purpose now. You can also use it to boost your immune system. It really helps that it is delicious too!

Ideal herb for skin care

Back with another essential oil post. You know what? In this generation, we have amazing companies who provide us with great quality oil but there is one oil that is super powerful: “Calendula oil”.

Calendula essential oil is another kind of oil. It has been extracted from the flower.

We have seen the usage of that kind of oil in cooking, but most of the people are scared of using this on their skin. Just because they think it could be harmful. But after medical research and experiments, it has been proved that it will not harm our skin, it even makes it healthier. (YEAH!).

Benefits:

  • It contains a great amount of moisturizer so it overcomes our dryness of skin, and the problem most of the people have split skin stuff, it resolves that as well without any pain.
  • It also helps when you are injured. Yes! You can use it on your bruises and swelling. It helps in the reduction of pain and swelling.
  • If some insect has bit you, then do not worry. Just apply some Calendula essential oil on the affected area and it will heal in no time.

Do you know that Calendula essential oil possesses therapeutic qualities?

Its medical benefits have been explored since centuries. It also has antioxidant properties. As an antioxidant, it protects the body from any damage that can be caused by аn іmmunо-suррrеssіng funсtіоn саllеd oxidants. If you combine it with olive oil, it becomes excellent salve even for serious burns, bruises, and cuts.

DIY Calendula Homemade Lotion

  • 170gm cup Almond or olive oil
  • 85gm calendula oil
  • 85gm beeswax
  • Optional: 1 teaspoon Vitamin E oil

Instructions

  1. Combine ingredients in a pint sized or larger glass jar. I have a mason jar that I keep just for making lotions and lotion bars, or you can even reuse a glass jar from pickles, olives or other foods.
  2. Fill a medium saucepan with a couple inches of water and place over medium heat. Put a lid on the jar loosely and place in the pan with the water.
  3. As the water heats, the ingredients in the jar will start to melt. Shake or stir occasionally to incorporate. When all ingredients are completely melted, pour into whatever jar or tin you will use for storage. Small mason jars (8 ounces) are great for this. It will not pump well in a lotion pump!
  4. Use as you would regular lotion. This has a longer shelf life than some homemade lotion recipes since all ingredients are already shelf stable and not water is added. Use within 6 months for best moisturizing benefits.

Although Calendula essential oil is very beneficial, I would recommend to use it carefully.

Ever tried making homemade lotion? How did it go? Tell me in the comments below and thank you so much for your support!
