The Importance of Eyebrows

For the last two years I feel that well shaped and filled in eyebrows have become more and more popular in the make-up world and to me, it’s not a surprise as of why. Eyebrows can drastically change what a person looks like and they add so much character to a face that I feel like it’s one of the first things that you should try to tackle when you’re interested in make-up. To illustrate how important brows are to the general look of a face I proceeded to quickly sketch a lady and gave her over 15 different brow shapes and intensities.

You may ask why? OiB is about natural beauty, and applied aromatherapy tips. Since the past months, I shared with you:

And more coming soon! Because beauty has different ways of expressing itself, I though it is time to diversify my scope, at least for a day – No fancy words, promise!

I’m not going to tell you which ones I think are flattering or not because I feel like it’s a matter of taste and not of fact. I personally dislike it when people tell you how to do something because they often only suggest it because it’s what they personally like, not what may be most suitable for you. Different faces suit different things, so you should do your brows in whichever way you want!

All I want to achieve with this is that you become aware of what different eyebrows do and perhaps gain some insight into how you want to shape your own. The next beautiful visuals are the courtesy of HantasticBeauty.

See how much changes in the intensity of the expressions when you change the opacity of the eyebrow. This is why it’s important to think of the colour as well! It can change how you come across drastically.

These two are almost identical, but the one on the left is more heavily filled in towards the tail and the beginning of the brow is left natural and lighter. On the right, the brow is filled in all the way to the center, note how much the intensity of the brow changes with just a little addition like that. So if you want a softer, more natural effect, lightly fill in the beginning of the brow instead of heavily

Eyebrow OrganicIsBeautiful
See how even a light or artistic eyebrow can bring expression to the face in a way that the ‘no eyebrow’ lacks, though not having brows can be a statement in itself as well and is quite popular for that.

Emu Oil Straight from Down Under

When I hear of anything described as a “Miracle”, instinctively I want to know what it is all about. Especially when it is a word used to describe something that could be good for my appearance and health. Wouldn’t you be interested in something that could make you feel and look better if you were feeling a little bit low or under the weather?

Until recently I’d never heard of Emu Oil but when I heard it referred to as “A miracle from down under” I thought Wow. What could possibly be so good that it is worthy of such a strong and characteristic description.

Curious as I am, I saw an opportunity to explore, combining my love and interest for health and travel.

What is Emu Oil?

The roots of Emu Oil

Finding out about emu Oil took me on an amazing adventure as I learned that Emu oil was native o`f Australia. The Emu is an animal from the same country, a large ostrich like bird that is unable to fly. I wanted to know more and I delved even deeper into the notions that makes Emu Oil so intriguing.

This is how it looks like:

If like me, you have an interest in history, there is an even better twist to this tale. Emu Oil has been used by Australian Aborigines for thousands and thousands of years.

Uses of Emu Oil

Emu Oil was only recently introduced into Europe as a natural alternative to moisturisers and sun block whilst later becoming used for burns or other skin related issues or problems. That in itself makes Emu oil an ideal essential in the luggage for those of us who like to travel and embrace on our girly or family holidays in the sun.

Made up of a number of different components Emu Oil has the capabilities to deeply penetrate your skin layers for an effective natural treatment. Emu oil is described as being Non-Comedogenic meaning it doesn’t clog the pores of your skin. Other characteristics include Emu oil as being hypoallergenic as not to cause irritation. It also anti-ageing properties!

If like me you lead a busy an active lifestyle we all at some point love and may need a bit of TLC to help us overcome those niggling minor illnesses or injury. This is where Emu Oil comes in. Further uses of Emu oil include:

  • Pain relief
  • Treatment of minor injuries, aches and pain
  • Healing of wounds by offering a protective element to the skin from weather conditions and climate

My Experience

Having intrigued me that much, the history and appeal of the Emu oil was such that I just had to try it. I needed to see how health, beauty and travel were all brought together in this natural so called miracle that is Emu Oil.

My life is both busy and active. As a keen sportsperson [recall my 50km marathon run last year? ] it’s an unfortunate yet common occurrence for me to suffer from aches pains and muscular discomfort, that’s aside the day to day stresses that can be apparent with the responsibility of combining work and looking after my friends.

When using Emu Oil I instantly felt a great sense of relief and relaxation as I gently massaged a small quantity onto my aching muscles and joints. Finally I had some me time. My reaction was simply wow. The results and impact of the emu oil were instant as it soothed my aches and pains providing me with effective relief. I was delighted to see that over time my skin condition and complexion also improved and learned to love the natural feel of the oil against my skin.

A List of Simple All-Natural Exfoliants For Your Skin

Why should you avoid store-bought exfoliants?

There are many products that you can buy to exfoliate your skin, but the problem with most of them is that they contain microbeads. Microbeads aren’t only rough on skin, but also terrible for the environment. The small plastic beads in these products aren’t filtered out by water treatment plants and are being washed right back into our water supply, often with harmful results for marine life.

In USA for instance, the state of Illinois recently banned the use of microbeads. The plastic waste caused by the microbeads, which are not filtered out during sewage treatment, are damaging water ecosystems.
In EU, the European commission has recently lunched the debate to closely monitor its long term impact. If you would like to read more about the project, you can read further update on the following link ⇒ EU.

The good news is, the best exfoliators are all-natural, so you don’t need to buy any harmful, expensive products. With ingredients that you already have on hand, you can have your face shining and refreshed in no time. List compiled by DIYNatural.

All-Natural Exfoliants

Sugar grains are naturally small and rough, which make them perfect for sloughing skin cells from your face. When added to an oil, such as grapeseed or olive oil, sugar is a fantastic exfoliant.

Another benefit to sugar?

It’s full of glycolic acid, which helps to naturally break down dead skin cells and decrease fine lines.

Hmm I am guessing your next question: How does it work?

Basically, glycolic acid contains small molecules that are able to penetrate into the skin. And, once it penetrates under the surface it loosens up the glue-like substance that holds the skin cells together and allows the skin to shed off the old dead cells. Once the skin has rid itself of the old cells it appears brighter and leaves your skin with a more, healthy glow.

Simple 😉

Oats is actually my favourite breakfast, no matter where I am or how I feel. It does the job and I looove trying new refreshing recipes. Oatmeal is one of the gentlest exfoliants you can find. If you have sensitive skin, it’s a great place to start for exfoliation.

Oatmeal | OrganicIsBeautiful

Oatmeal works best when whole oats are ground up in a food processor, then added to water or another base and applied to the face with your fingertips. Another benefit to oatmeal is that it absorbs oil, so you will be cleansing as you exfoliate.

Baking Soda

I often use baking soda in my DIY skincare routine. And since all you really have to do is make a paste out of baking soda and water, it’s quite possibly the simplest and least expensive exfoliant on this list. Baking soda is one of my favorite exfoliants; my face always feels so much fresher after I’ve rinsed all the baking soda off, and it’s very gentle, too.

Sea Salt

Sea salt (not table salt!) makes a great exfoliant, too. The granules are large and coarse, and don’t dissolve easily. This makes it fantastic for use on the rougher parts of your body, like elbows and feet. Another nice thing about sea salt is that it isn’t at all sticky. To use, simply mix with a small amount of oil and rub into your skin.

The week end is coming soon, if you feel like pampering yourself with a refreshing and calming bath, read that:

Caffeine is known to decrease puffiness around the eyes.

Coffee | OrganicIsBeautiful
Coffee | OrganicIsBeautiful

Exfoliating and decreasing puffiness at the same time? Sounds good to me! You can use either fresh coffee grounds or those you’ve already brewed (which makes more sense to me – recycling is always a good thing!), add them to a small amount of the oil of your choice, and apply to your skin.

Note: The only downside I see to using coffee as an exfoliant is that coffee grounds are inherently messy, so be prepared for a bit of cleanup.

It probably sounds strange to think of rubbing almonds all over your face, but when they’re ground up very finely, almonds make for a great exfoliant. Almond powder is a chemical-free, nutrient-rich method to exfoliate your skin.

When added to a small amount of water, almond powder will exfoliate the skin without leaving behind any residue. Other powders hold similar health attributes for your skin such as Cinnamon, rice or green tea (matcha) powder.

Now you know…

Using an exfoliant a few times a week is one of the best ways to keep your skin healthy and young-looking. Make sure you use them gently – exfoliating shouldn’t hurt! Scrubbing your face too hard or too often can result in irritated skin, and redness is definitely not the look you’re going for with this.

If you think it’s going to be difficult to incorporate natural exfoliation into your routine, take heart. Seriously, if I can learn to do it, you can learn to do it.

Once you get used to having such bright skin, you’ll never want to go back.

Happy Skin Everyone,

Next post next Monday on something called…Emu Oil I recently discovered and loved 😉

With the help the blood sugar levels decrease and the resistance to insulin, which is the main reason of this disease is also improved. The doctors suggest taking around 6 grams of Cinnamon every day for best effects! In addition to increasing the insulin levels, this spice is also helpful in lowering the cholesterol levels in the body.

The Little Life of My Konjac Sponge.

Konjac Sponge, say thank you to Mother Earth. If it is something you have not heard of then I am delighted to introduce you to the Konjac sponge. Curious name!?

I love a little pamper and this is one way I can feel like I am treating myself to a relaxing natural gentle cleanse of my face and body, with minimum effort and ease.

Once you try the Konjac sponge your wash routine will never be the same again as you become familiar and newly dependent on its uses.

What is the Konjac Sponge?

Konjac is derived from a potato like plant that can be found in areas such as Asia.

That is how it looks like:

It has been used for a number of years as a food source but more recently started being used in beauty treatments. The Konjac sponge is made from a vegetable fibre which is produced from the plant and then combined with French clays to make a sponge.

Some of the benefits of the Konjac sponge are: Biodegradable

  • Natural Extremely soft and gentle
  • Comes in different varieties suitable for numerous skin types

What can it do?

I was constantly looking for a natural cleanser and with the Konjac sponge there is certainly a lot to thank Mother Earth for in finding me my solution. The Konjac sponge provides you with a gentle cleaner and exfoliator for both face and body.

This is how mine looks like. I think I got it early May, thats a good 6 weeks ago:

Try it for yourself and witness the delicate nature in which it removes dead skin from your body leaving your skin feeling fresh, amazingly soft and smooth. Make up removal is another use and if you are anything like me, removing your make up can always be a bit of a chore.

Did you know? Argan Oil is also a fabulous gentle make up removal to try out!

The soft texture of the sponge allows you to use it to take off a lot of your make up gently and quickly leaving you feeling super fresh.

∴ Is there a technique to using the sponge?

When you first get your sponge the texture may seem quite dry and hard.

There is one simple trick. The trick is to wet the sponge under warm water and gradually you will feel the texture begin to soften in your hands.

Once softened the sponge will adopt a puffy and wet appearance and this is now where you can begin you mini pamper and use the flat side of the sponge to exfoliate and gently remove dirt and dead skin. Removal of the dead skin will leave you feeling great as your tired skin is stimulated and feels brand new.

We all know how good that clean freshly washed feeling is.

All good things must come to an end an over time your sponge will require replacing, usually when it begins to deteriorate and break up. But hey, where is the harm in replacing something for new when you know how good your skin is left feeling after using your sponge, particularly as they are also so reasonably costed. Not only that but even when you dispose of your old sponge it can be used in compost as it is natural and totally safe.

Once your face is freshly clean, a drop or two of organic coconut oil, carrot oil combined with the right skincare routine will make your skin glow. Promise 😉

Lots of love xx
