You might have seen those bizarre red circles on Olympians or celebrities recently and pondered if someone did not apply their sunscreen correctly. These red markings are actually from cupping therapy sessions, a type of deep tissue massage. It goes without saying that cupping therapy is definitely something I recommend you try.

What is Cupping Therapy?

Cupping therapy is an alternative therapy method much like acupuncture and massage. Instead of applying pressure to muscles or penetrating the skin, though, cupping uses suction from “cups” to pull skin, tissue, and muscles upward. This action enhances circulation, relieves pain, and pulls out impurities . These cups can be made from glass, bamboo, earthenware, or silicone, although I have seen one earthenware ones in person.

Though this type of therapy is now trending around the world, it is not a new discovery. Cupping therapy has been used since 3000 BC by the ancient Egyptians, Middle Eastern cultures, and Chinese. In China, cupping therapy is a trade passed down through the generations. In ancient times, Taoist medical herbalists used cupping therapy to treat royals and aristocrats.

How does it Work?

The therapy involves using cups applied to a patient’s back. Cups are positioned in such a way that a vacuum effect is created. This suction targets areas deep beneath the skin and tissue.

There are two techniques widely used in cupping therapy: dry cupping (also known as “fire cupping”) and wet cupping (also called “bleeding cupping”). Also seen with dry cupping are “fixed cupping,” and “moving cupping,” where the cups may or may not be repositioned around the back.

Dry Cupping

This style of cupping involves having cups placed onto the patient’s back then carefully heated using fire. Sometimes, the cups are heated with hot water or oil. Once placed, the cups are held on the back for about 15 minutes. Since the cups contract during cooling, the skin in contact with the cup gets pulled up into the cup. If the cups do not get moved, this would be “fixed cupping.” Should oil be applied to the back and the cups moved around while cooling, that would be “moving cupping.”

Wet Cupping

This version was most popular in the Middle East and involves “blood-letting” [1]. After leaving a cup on the back for about 3 minutes, the therapist then removes the cup and uses a scalpel to cut the skin. Another set of cups is then placed over the cut to draw out blood.

What are the Benefits?

Research has been done on cupping therapy. A recent meta-analysis published by PLOS One in 2012  stated that cupping aids various conditions like:

  • Herpes zoster
  • Acne
  • Cervical spondylosis

The British Cupping Society  also says cupping is beneficial for treating the following:

  • Anemia
  • Hemophilia
  • Rheumatic diseases like arthritis and fibromyalgia
  • Infertility
  • Eczema
  • High blood pressure
  • Migraines
  • Anxiety
  • Depression
  • Bronchial congestion
  • Varicose veins

I know cupping therapy might seem a bit scary and look weird, but it is an OiB recommended treatment. You will not believe how much better you feel after a few sessions! Essential oils can be much more powerful than you anticipate. Personally I had many trouble using essential oils, also I have heard from many getting in trouble by not properly using essential oil. Safety should be first priority, while dealing with such hazardous substances. I’ve created this safety guide in order to help you deal with essential oils.

Including myself many have incorporated essential oil in the daily life. They are highly concentrated liquid; it is not carefully used can cause great harm. The essential oil with respect and follow me on this guide on how to safely use essential oils.

  1. Never use any essential oil undiluted.
    Many experts believe that, you should only use undiluted essential oil once you have gained enough knowledge on what you’re dealing with. Many people use lavender oil, tea tree oil or any other essential oil without any prior precaution, most of them use undiluted. If abused this can be very harmful for your skin and even may leave a permanent damage, you may not see any damage to soon but in the long run there can be. So just avoid that risk.
  2. Some essential oil may have an allergic reaction to your skin.
    So before you try essential oil on your face or your hands, just test it on a small patch of skin. Most preferably on your thighs. Years of dealing with essential oils, I’ve heard many allergic reactions and inflammation to certain oils. Should definitely be sure before you start using it.
  3. Do a proper research before you start using essential oil.
    Some essential oils need to be totally avoided by pregnant women and those with problems skin is. Patients suffering from diseases like asthma, epilepsy or other similar condition should also choose essential oils carefully. The proper research and consult with your doctor before you start incorporating essential oil in your daily life.

  4. Do not use essential oils in excess, when it comes to using it the less is more.
    Essential oils are extremely concentrated liquid only one or two drops is what all you need. When I started using essential oil, I was using it to much and in no time I was facing the consequences. So using essential oils in excess is a big no!!
  5. Never allow children to use essential oils without their parents knowledge.
    As mentioned above if abused essential oil can be quite dangerous. Make sure to keep essential oil from unsafe hands. There have been many cases where children consumed essential oil, you definitely don’t want to end up in such a situation.
  6. Never take essential oils internally without any prior knowledge.
    Consult and do a research before you take them internally. Essential oils are highly concentrated is and should not be taken in without any proper understanding of it. Essential oils may be derived from direct from various food products like black pepper, lemon, clove, orange etc but it doesn’t mean that there must be taken internally. I am not saying that you shouldn’t, but you definitely need to do a proper research.
  7. Essential oils can be extremely flammable keep them away from any fire hazards

There are numerous health benefits of horseradish sauce. But first let’s introduce horseradish sauce to you. Horseradish sauce is made by shredding and pounding the fresh root then lemon juice is added to it. In this form, horseradish can be stored in a cool dry place for a week.  

Horseradish plant is a plant that you cannot be successfully put through a juicer machine. The reason behind this is that it possesses extremely strong essential oils, so string that the toughest physique will find them hard to tolerate.  


Basically, horseradish herb is very beneficial for dissolving mucus in the nose, so all the people out there either suffering from cold and flu or sinus must start using it. Check out the recipe below: 

Take half a teaspoon of sauce without dilution, twice a day.   • 8ounces cream cheese 
  • 2-3tablespoons white creamed horseradish 
  • 8ounces pasta cooked 


Microwave cream cheese until soft.  Mix in horseradish.  If not to your liking for consistency, add a little milk.  Mix with hot cooked pasta.  Enjoy!

When you have made a weight loss goal, it seems like you will do anything to get rid of fat. Am I right? I know, because I too have been there, staring at food labels with “low fat,” “sugar-free,” and other lies printed on the carton. Yes, that is right. Low fat is a lie that needs to be avoided at all costs.

Let me explain why low fat is not necessarily your healthiest option:

Long ago, when the food industry started seeing the waistlines of people increasing and the demand for healthier options growing, they took out their chemistry sets and decided to whip up goodies that look and taste like their full fat counterparts but with more healthy looking labels.

Sadly, this brought about the invention of hydrogenated fats and oils—the ingredients where trans fats lurk.

Another harrowing detail is that, if you look at the ingredients of “low-fat” foods, you will find the presence of sugar alcohols, syrups, and other things that boosts the sugar content without lowering the calories in the slightest. Oh, and do not ignore the excess of salt either.

Now, you do not have to be a nutrition whiz to understand that when you have an excess of something in the body, the body converts it into fat for later. It does not matter if that excess is protein, carbohydrates, fat, sugar, or fat-soluble vitamins. So, even if the food is devoid of fat, you are still going to gain weight from too much sugar.

And all the extra sodium and nitrites floating around your system will induce heart problems.

Next time you are at the grocery store and have accessed to pre packaged baked goods, like muffins, do me a favor and pick up the low fat version and the regular version for a quick comparison.

For example, I found a low fat cranberry and orange muffin the other day that was 300 calories. The regular muffin had 400 calories. But, the sugar content of the low fat muffin was 38 grams compared to the other one which was 30 grams. The “reduced fat” muffin had high fructose corn syrup, shortening, and about 150 more milligrams of sodium too.

It may seem counterintuitive, but the body needs fat to lose fat. You cannot rid yourself completely of fat, because it is essential to a healthy system. But you can be smart about the fat you eat.

Good fats, known as MUFAs, PUFAs, and omega 3 and 6 fatty acids, maintain blood vessels, aid the nervous and endocrine system in proper functioning, and help with vitamin absorption.

Sources of good fat include:

  • Nuts and seeds like almonds.
  • Avocado and avocado oil
  • Coconut and coconut oil (in moderate amounts)
  • Extra virgin olive oil
  • Dark chocolate
  • Chia and flax seeds

Simply put, if you want baked goods, make them at home. Add in healthy fat alternatives, like avocado and EVOO to satisfy your sweet tooth while upping the nutrition. And always remember, just because something sounds healthy does not mean it is. Chemicals and other toxic substitutes will only harm you in the end.
